One storyline this week has dominated all others and by 'eck it's been good. No really, it has.  Blanche and Deirdre are desperate for Tracy to keep her baby and do all they can to massage her maternal instinct.  It kind of works, Tracy has doubts about giving the baby to the Croppers and in a wonderful scene, Roy and Hayley go to collect the baby from her and she tells them she needs more time.  Hayley fair near screams the place down with anger and then reminds Tracy that if she felt anything at all for the baby, she'd know she didn't need time to think.  As Roy and Hayley leave the house empty-handed they hover on the doorstep then Tracy comes out and hands them the baby and Roy hands her the final payment.  As the door closes, Tracy breaks down in tears but not before she's checked the Cropper's bank draft first.  Roy and Hayley are in their element, loving every single minute of being with their baby whom they've named Patience on the birth certificate.   When Blanche finds out what Tracy's gone and done, she tells her to move out of the house and it's only then that Tracy decides to get back the baby....

... meanwhile, Steve and Karen prepare for their wedding. Liz and Andy arrive and Liz upsets Karen by inviting Ken and Deirdre to the wedding so she'd have someone to talk to.  Anyway, the bridesmaids are all dolled up in red frocks, matching fur wraps (with pom-poms) and feathers on their heads.  Karen's in her element, Steve's resigned to marrying for the third time and Andy's been warned to keep Karen and Liz apart.  And as for the guests: Kirk's in a kipper tie, Rita's regal in Ethel Austin and Roy brings the baby in a taxi - noting down her first car ride in the baby journal of course. When Liz sees the baby she gets all broody and does her fair bit of oohing and aahing although mind you, it is quite a nice one, for a baby.

So all's well until Tracy arrives demanding to see Roy.  Steve and Andy throw her out but she sneaks back in just as the wedding's started and the bride and groom are ready to be altered at the altar.  Tracy demands to see Roy, the wedding stops, accusing eyes turn toward her and everyone stands up to find out what's going on. Karen's livid and demands that Tracy leaves but instead she tells everyone who the baby's real father is.  A fight breaks out - the photographer continues taking pictures and Janice and Fiz get their pom-poms  mangled.  Roy and Hayley sneak away with the baby, the guests return to the reception and free beer as Steve and Karen repair to the vestry for a humdinger of an argument that gets even more humdingy when Tracy interrupts.  This was great stuff with lies from Tracy, apologies from Steve and pure venom from Karen who threatened Tracy with a 4" stilletto heel, red of course.  "I've got one for each of you" she growls at Steve when he tries to intervene.   When Tracy leaves, Steve does his best to persuade Karen he still wants to marry her and he gets down on his knees and asks her all over again.

Back at the bar Liz realises this makes her a granny and she and Deirdre go head to head over their ne'er do well off-spring, a few home truths spilling out in the lounge of Wallcott Manor in a wonderful scene as the harpist played on without a care in the world.   This whole wedding thing has been done wonderfully, I've enjoyed it a lot.

Elsewhere on the Street Maria moved into the Platt's house so she could live with Nick as they save for a place of their own.  Gail is doing all she can to keep her number one offspring as close to her as possible but the cloying mother love is taking its toll already on Maria. Run, my dear, run.

And that's just about that for this week.

Glenda
