Curly and Racquel are still not on speaking terms. Racquel learns about the fight Curly and Des had and goes to see Curly at work, in Soopascoopa and they have an argument, Curly tells Racquel he doesn't want to see her again. After she leaves the shop, Curly goes berserk and tips over some of the produce, Emily and Percy are in the shop at the time and they see all of this. Needless to say, Curly gets sacked. When Reg hears about this, he takes Curly by the neck (almost!) and arranges an interview for him with the company Reg works for, although he doesn't tell Curly what the job is for. Only when Curly accepts the job does he find out that the 'management' position is in fact .... - Reg's assistant! So, Curly and Reg are back working together again.

Des Barnes hasn't been sacked from the bookies, in fact he and his boss are quite good friends now. The boss tells Des that his divorce has just come through and they go to the Rovers to 'celebrate' this, with the boss (I can't remember his name) eyeing up Liz in the bar and telling her she's a good looking woman and so on.

Denise and Ken seem to be getting on ok with baby Danny, Denise purchases a pushchair. Ken is keen to get his hands on some of the furniture that rightfully belongs to him and which is now in Deidre's old house, owned by Baldwin. Ken writes Baldwin a letter putting his case clearly stating that he owns the furniture, Deidre said he could take it and so on, but when Mike receives the letter he just laughs at Ken and tells him there's no chance of getting the furniture.

Derek is still on his health kick, he meets up with Norris trying to sell him some stationery but Norris ends up selling Derek a hugely expensive piece of gym equipment, much to Mavis' annoyance. Vicky has her 18th birthday and comes into some money, (about 240,000 pounds) and takes Bet out for dinner. Bet tells her not to let the money change her at all and to be careful of wolves after her money. Of course, Steve MacDonald eyes are lighting up every time he sees her now, he knows of the money of course.

Another eventful week here. You may also have heard that real life actress Barbara Knox who plays Rita is to leave her husband, it's in the tabloids here.

Ken finds out that Emily still holds a key to Deidre's old house...! Emily appears to be regressing into a bad state of mental health and is being particularly snappy with people after Mike Baldwin has an argument with her when she was about to offer him the key to Deidre's house back. So, she's feeling rather used by Mike (after working for him for all those years etc...) so she gives Ken the key. Ken enlists the help of Martin and Kevin to help him 'remove' the furniture he wants from the house. Kevin decides its more than his job is worth to help Ken in case Mike finds out he was in on this, so chickens out. Ken moves the furniture into his flat. When Mike finds out about this he calls the police to report a burglary, knowing full well that Ken has taken the stuff. The police constable comes around, he happens to be an ex-pupil of Ken's and they get on well, the policeman tries to talk Mike out of pressing charges but Ken gets taken in for questioning and in the end is let off. However, later in the Rovers Mike embarasses Ken in front of everyone calling him a thief and the father of an illegitimate child etc., Ken goes to hit Mike but Bet stands in between them both to stop the fight, Mike tells Ken it's not over and he could still press civil charges against him for burglary. Then, Ken goes home to find Tracey waiting for him to remind him that it's her 18th birthday the next day, ken offer hers 50 pounds as a present and Tracey acts most ungrateful, saying "Am I only getting 50 pounds?" and so on, and so she leaves in a huff after a big argument with Ken. On the whole, not a good day for poor old Ken!

Don finds himself a new lady friend, he drives her in the taxi and she finds him in the Rovers later to pay her fare as she doesn't have enough money at the time and they have a drink together.

Liz MacDonald is now working full time in the betting shop, Des is against this and is doing his best to make sure Liz isn't settling in well. The boss (Shaun) fancies Liz though and wants her working there. When Bet finds out she is working there, she goes to see her to tell her she will find someone to take her place in the Rovers.

Do you remember Trish Armstong? This was the girl with the young boy who was caught shoplifting in Betterbuys and then Curly went out with her for a while until her husband found out? Well, she answered Alma's advert to move into the flat above the cafe, Alma agrees to take her on but then finds out she has a son, so isn't so keen on having a young boy above the cafe when there is only one bedroom. She tells Mike who offers to rent out Deidre's old house to her and her son, she's overjoyed of course but Mike did promise her a FURNISHED house and of course, Ken has all of the furniture now!

Gail has been away to see "Ivy in the retreat" for a few days.

Alf helps out in the corner shop when Maude takes a few days off and Audrey is starting to feel a bit jealous about Betty being the mayoress.

Rita and Roger are still going out together, Rita confides to Mavis that although she likes him enough, he just 'isn't Ted' and feels there's something lacking between them. Roger and Mavis start art school again this term and Roger asks Mavis what Rita really thinks of him so Mavis tells him the truth, I think she is secretly pleased that nothing serious will happen between Roger and Rita. Derek is still on his health kick and drinks pints of water in the Rovers!

Well, Trisha Armstrong doesn't seem to be making too good an impression on her new neighbours. She has a little boy (aged about 12) and he is a bit of a tearaway and she doesn't know how to keep control of him properly. She finds herself locked out of the house she's renting from Mike Baldwin (Deidre's old house), just as Vera and Jack Duckworth are passing so Jack breaks the glass in the front door to open the door for her and lets her in. When the little boy sees Jack he says to his mum (in front of Vera) "Isn't that the man that my dad gave a black eye to when he found him in our house?" and of course it was Jack, when he babysat the boy when Curly took Trisha on a data a few months back. Mike Baldwin starts an argument in the Rovers with Trisha over who is to pay for the broken glass in the door, and the Duckworths get dragged into this also. Trisha also talks to Bet (not knowing she is the landlady of the Rovers) and asks her if she can put a word in for her with the landlady of the Rovers to get her a part time bar job, although she's been told the landlady is a right 'slab face'!

Liz Macdonald walks out of her job at the bookies after having an argument with Steve over his gambling habits. He complains to Liz that she lives in a slum while he lives in a flat on the docks and his gambling has paid for all of that and his new lifestyle. Des asks Liz to come back to work and Steve apologises in the end.

Mavis is rushed into hospital with concussion after falling off the 'Mile Muncher' exercise machine of Derek's. Derek is short of sympathy for Mavis' bump on the head until Martin Pratt tells Derek he could sue for damages. Derek, realising there could be something in this pampers Mavis for all he's worth, making out her injuries are worse than they are.

Alf is invited to a Mayoral lunch where a royal person will be making an appearance. When Audrey hears about this she decides she wants to be Mayoress after all, and must see the Royal. However, Betty has already bought a new outfit but Audrey thinks she can sway Alf's opinion to take her instead so cooks a nice supper and cuddles up to him on the sofa, but Alf tells her he's definetely taking Betty as she is now the 'official' Mayoress.

Rita and Roger continue to be friends, Rita tells Mavis to mind her own business over their relationship.

Emily and Ken have a long chat, and they both admit they miss Deidre.

Curly finds out that his new neighbour is Trish Armstrong and at first believes she has come looking for him, but when he finds out she has moved into the street he has a resigned drink in the Rovers.

Well, Audrey has really gone and done it this time! Alf still refuses to take her to the Lord Lieutenant's luncheon where the Royal person will attend. So Audrey decides to bring to Alf's attention the fact that she can get her own way and embarrasses him into the bargain. Alf and Betty are due to open a new sports centre, Audrey enlists the help of butcher Fred Eliott and they change the time of Alf's visit to 1/2 hour earlier than planned, Audrey rings the sports centre to tell them the Mayor can't make it but the Mayoress will attend in his place. So Audrey and Fred make it to the sports centre and get all of the attention that should have gone to Alf, Audrey even steals Alf's speech and reads it out. Unfortunately for Audrey, Alf and Betty arrive just as Audrey is finishing her speech and Alf is furious. When they get home, they argue and Alf tells her she is not officially the Mayoress any longer and has embarrassed him no end. Audrey simply states that if he doesn't reinstate her as the official Mayoress, she will continue to embarrass him in public and to bring his good name down. Fred Eliot, the butcher, is acting as chauffer to Audrey and thinks he's on to a good thing with her but Audrey is just simply using him as her transport.

Vicky comes back to the Rovers, and tells Bet she has left school. Bet is furious that she won't be going back for her exams and Vicky's attitude is that she doesn't need to pass her exams as she has the money now, and wants to invest it in a business, with horses and stables. Bet marches Vicky to see her headmistresses at school who agrees with Vicky, there isn't much point in her taking her exams as she wouldn't do very well in them anyway. Bet is gob-smacked as she expected Vicky to carry on to University and has been told that Vicky isn't actually clever enough to do this.

Steve MacDonald doesn't gamble any longer in the betting shop that Liz works in, he's taking to gambling elsewhere although Liz thinks he's given up for good. Des and Shaun are concerned over not seeing Steve in the bookies as he has a huge debt to clear up.

Mavis and Derek are still fighting over a compensation claim from Norris - who obviously thinks they've got a good case but is doing his best to dissaude them from taking it to court.

Trish Armstrong starts work in the Rovers as a cleaner, she isn't making many new friends in the Street so far. Racquel finds out that she used to go out with Curly and isn't too pleased about it. Curly is keeping Trish at arms length when she called around to see him, he pretended he was just on his way out.

Well, Alf is torn between taking Audrey or Betty to the Lord Lieutenant's lunch where the 'Royal' person (you never find out who it is) will be attending. Both Audrey and Betty are giving Alf a hard time, they both want to be the only person he takes with him as the official Mayoress. So, Alf decides to send them both... and he stays at home with his feet up. Audrey ends up bragging to everyone about how she met the Royal and chatted to her, while Betty tells everyone they were both stuck behind a crowd of people and could see the Royal from a distance only. Alf tells Audrey he is opening a sewage plant next week, and of course Audrey tells Alf he can take Betty along to that one!

In the betting shop, Shaun the manager asks Liz to stay behind for a drink after work and she agrees, Shuan ends up telling her how much he fancies her and tries to kiss her, Liz walks out on him shouting, and then he tells Des the next day that things aren't working out with Liz, he's not happy with her work and wants Des to sack her.

Trish has made a friend in Vera, as Vera can see a lot of herself in Trish when she was younger. They both go to the bingo together and go shopping too.

Mavis and Derek are still intent on claiming against Norris for Mavis's so called injuries. However, it looks like they have a case until Mavis confesses to Derek she was wearing court shoes with heels when she tried the machine... will she be able to go through the claim with the guilt playing on her mind?

Vicky goes to see her grandad to tell him that she has left school and Bet is overjoyed to have her back in the Rovers, and they are getting on well together although Vicky hasn't made any concrete plans for her future as yet.

Don's new friend Josie is still around, they went to the park with Gail and Martin's younger son (can't remember the name) and then Don takes her into the cafe to introduce her to Gail who seems pleased that Don has a new lady in his life, although Vera isn't so pleased that her best friend's husband is seeing another woman.

In the hairdressing salon, John needs a model for a hair show he is entering and asks Racquel. Although she'd decided never to model again after the modelling school told her she didn't have what it takes, she decides to do the show for John.

Curly wonders how he can get to meet some of the girls that work in the supermarket where he now works with Reg, Reg tells him not to bother with them as he has already told the female workforce that Curly is gay so they don't bother with him. Curly is incensed by this so to get his own back he tells the women that he and Reg are lovers!!!!

Ken, Denise and Mike haven't been in the show for a while so we haven't seen the new baby much at all. Also, it is obvious that the actress who plays Sally Webster is pregnant in real life although they are trying they best to disguise this by only showing shots of her from shoulders up!

Shaun decides not to sack Liz after all, after talking to Des who tells him there is no need to sack her as he work is fine (although Des doesn't know the real reason why he wants to get rid of her), so Shaun and Liz make up and become friends again.

Mavis and Derek decide to drop the claim against Morris for Mavis' injuries on the Mile Muncher machine. Mavis finds out however that it was actually Angela's idea to drop the claim against Norris, and that Derek had taken Angela's advice, so is quite furious about this.

Vicky has a letter from her grandad inviting her on a 3 week cruise leaving this Friday, but Vicky has no one to take with her and asks Bet to go, Bet doesn't fancy going on holiday with Alec but does fancy the holiday itself. Later, Alec rings Vicky to say he can't go on the cruise after all but still lets Vicky have the option of taking someone, so both her and Bet are all set to go on the cruise together for 3 weeks. Bet now needs to contact the brewery to send in a relief manager while she is away.

Steve MacDonald is having severe money problems, Shaun is after his debt owing to him for Steve's gambling in the bookmakers (about £2,000) and his credit cards have been stopped also. Fiona tries to help him out of it but he doesn't seem able to help himself. With Fiona giving him so much attention lately he realises that he really loves her and asks her to marry him, and sends her 24 red roses to the hairdressing salon. Fiona thinks about this a lot and tells him the answer is no, mainly due to his cash situation and tells him when he digs himself out of the hole he's in she might think differently about his proposal. Mike Baldwin is also giving Steve a bad time over the business, as they have just lost a big order and the business isn't doing too good either.

John enters the hairdressing competition with Racquel as his model (who laps up the attention). John persuades Fiona to enter the competition too and she uses Steve as her model. John is placed second winner, and Fiona receives a special mention for a first time competitor who has won the most points.

Josie and Don are getting more used to each other, she goes around to Don's house and he cooks dinner for her, she is disgusted with the dirty tea towels he's using in the kitchen and he tells her it's because his washing machine is broken, so Josie offers to do Don's laundry. She does know about Ivy in the retreat, and Vera is most unhappy with Don seeing another woman.

Reg Holdsworth hears on the grapevine that Firmans Freezers may be taken over by an American company who are notorious for sacking all of the present staff and recruiting their own to take their places, he's worried now about losing his job, although he hasn't told Curly yet all of what is happening.

Still no sign of Ken, Denise and the baby, although you do get to hear the baby's screams filtering down from Denise's flat into the hairdressing salon!

Steve MacDonald and his girlfriend Fiona decide they need to cut back on Steve's spending to ease his money problems and the best way to do this is for Steve to give up his flat in the docklands and to move somewhere cheaper. Fiona asks Alma if the flat above the cafe is still for rent, and now they are planning on moving in there. Shaun tells Liz he is worried about Steve's overdraft and warns her that he will go after the money.

Mavis and Derek accept an invitation to Angela's house for dinner along with Norris. Angela and Mavis don't get on at all well and Angela makes a pass at Norris and keeps on feeling his leg under the table!

It's Rita's birthday and Alf takes in a bunch of flowers for her, they end up having a heart to heart talk about life in general and shop keeping and so on, and Alf tells Rita it's all worth while when he gets a smile from her, she is so touched that they give each other a hug just as Martin walks in the shop and he teases Alf about this. Later, Alf and Audrey go to Gail and Martin's house for tea and Alf tells Martin that he got the wrong idea about himself and Rita, and brings up the fact that he saw Martin kissing a young nurse when he visited the hospital on Christmas Day.

Vera tries some matchmaking with Curly and Trisha and invites them both to tea on the same night. She goes on about there not being enough happiness in the world and how you have to grab it while you can and they both realise they've been set up with Vera playing cupid. Still, it works, and the next night Curly offers to take Trisha out. Before they go out, Trisha's son comes to see Curly and warns him to be careful(!) when he takes his mum out.

The relief manager steps in to the Rovers to take over while Bet is away. Bet did ask Racquel to take over while she went on her cruise but Racquel couldn't decide if she was strong enough for the responsibility, and by the time she'd decided she would like to step in as relief manager, Bet had already called the brewery. His name is Rodney and he was in the police force with Betty's husband Cyril. He is about the same age as Betty and they get on well. Jack tries to pull a fast one and tells Rodney that it's a tradition for the Rovers to stay open past closing time for the regulars to stay behind for a drink, however his plan backfires when there's just himseld and Rodney who ends up playing his trombone in the Rovers. (Racquel calls it a flute!)

Josie waits at Don's house for his new washing machine to be delivered, unfortunately it doesn't arrive so Josie busies herself with cleaning the kitchen while Don is out. I think Don is starting to feel a bit overwhelmed with Josie, and that she could be taking over his life a little bit too much although he seems to enjoy her company.

I've just heard on national radio this morning that The Street is to have an update itself, with a fish and chip shop and a butcher's shop included, hot favourites to work in the fish and chip shop are Vera and Trisha with amorous Fred Elliot to work in the butcher's shop. One of the shops will have a flat above it too. It has been a quiet week otherwise on CS, not too much happening really.

Reg decides that to stay with Firmans he has to present a younger image and so spends £300 on a wig, (very unrealistic looking!), Curly makes fun of him while he's wearing it at work, and the shop girls at Firmans all giggle at him too. He won't wear it in front of Maureen though as he is too embarassed.

Alf tells Audrey the reason that things are strained between himself and Martin, and Audrey confides in Gail that she must start looking after Martin better than she has been doing.

Steve McDonald and his girlfriend move into the flat above Jim's cafe and Steve promises to turn over a new leaf financially. However, he goes the the horse races and wins £800... unfortunately for him both Shaun and Des are there too and Shaun takes the £800 off Steve immediately to pay off some of his debt with Shaun.

Rodney the relief manager in the Rovers is a big hit with everyone really, he gets on well with the staff and regulars and tells Jack that all he has ever wanted in life is a pub like the Rovers. Rodney does some of Jack's cellar work for him and Jack is afraid that Rodney will find out that in fact Jack doesn't do much at all in the cellar, and usually ends up going to sleep down there, but Rodney doesn't let on.

Curly takes Trisha out for an evening, and they go to the pictures, they seem to be getting on quite well together.

Josie stays at Don's house all day for her dinner and tea and she asks Don if she can stay for breakfast ;-) but Don gets a bit upset with her and tells her he can only take the relationship slowly, one day at a time.

So, as you can see not too much happening really. Ken and Denise haven't been in the show for a long time now. Mavis has a slight crush on Shaun when he comes into the Kabin for something, and the actress who plays Sally Webster is still in the show but because of her pregnancy which they are trying to disguise... she is only in shots with her behind a counter at the corner shop or with one of her children in front of her.

Quite an exciting week on the Street this week.

Martin takes Gail out for a romantic meal while Alf and Audrey babysit for them. When they arrive back home, Martin confesses to Gail that he has been unfaithful, and that he actually slept with the nurse on Christmas Day. Gail is devastated and stops speaking to Martin, ignoring him around the house. Audrey calls around to see Gail the next day and spills the beans to Gail, telling her that both her and Alf already knew of Martin's infidelity as Alf had seen him kissing the nurse at the hospital on Christmas Day. This upsets Gail even more and when she asks Audrey why she hadn't told Gail about this, Audrey said that she and Alf had both been waiting for Martin to tell her first. Gail realises that Martin has only told her now because he was afraid that she would hear it from Alf or Audrey first.

Alma receives a letter from her ex husband's solicitors telling her that Jim had died 2 months ago, and she finds out that Jim has left her £2,000 in his will. She decides to spend the money on a used sports car, a convertible MG, much to Mike's dismay who can't understand why she wanted another car when they have 1 each already, but of course she wanted something of her own. The shot of her driving it down the street with Phyllis in the passenger seat is priceless!

Steve MacDonald continues to have pressure put on him about his financial situation, this time from another bookmaker who he owes money to. Steve approaches Shaun and asks him for the money back that Shaun took from him at the race course when he won £800. He tells Shaun that it could be seen as theft, and Shaun wonders whether Steve will go ahead with any kind of court case about it, because legally Steve does have a point. Steve and Mike Baldwin are back in business together, printing t-shirts for a local nightclub. Steve takes Fiona out for a meal and at the end of the evening asks for the bill, and gives the waiter his car keys and asks for his car to be brought round to the front of the restaurant for him. The waiter returns with his credit card, telling him that payment has been refused and he can't have his car keys back until he pays the bill!

Don and Josie appear to have split up because Josie was wanting too much out of the relationship.

Trisha's son Jamie gets on well with Jack Duckworth and Jack lets him look after the pigeons with him.

Rodney in the Rovers(!) decides to liven the place up a bit, Jack is wary of Rodney's plans but Rodney tells him he has a great idea to bring more custom into the pub. We'll have to wait until next week to see what he has up his sleeve!

Martin and Gail continue to have problems at home. Martin wants Gail to forget about what happened and to put it behind her, but she can't. Alma goes around to see Gail and Gail confides to her that she can't trust Martin anymore no matter how hard she tries and wants to. Gail stays away from the cafe for a few days and is very miserable for a while, hardly speaking to Martin at home. Then, she goes out for a long walk on her own to think about things, comes home feeling quite serene and peaceful and is very nice to the children but completely ignores Martin. I think she will probably throw him out.

Mike wants to check out Alma's car to make sure it hasn't been stolen, so he rings a company who can check out these details when you give them the registration number over the telephone. Alma's car comes back clean of course but she is so incensed that he challenged her judgement that she rings in the registration number of the Merc. and it comes back as being the registration number of a different car altogether, so it must be stolen!

Steve McDonald goes to the police about Shaun stealing his money from him, the police question Shaun who says that Steve handed over the money of his own free will. The police also question Des who lies for Shaun and tells the police that he didn't see anything at all.

Rodney decides to hold a karaoke night in the Rovers, although the regulars don't agree to it and say it will be a flop. However, it's a success! and very, very funny too. Reg Holdsworth gets up to sing Great Balls of Fire. Denise (Ken babysits), Fiona and John sing something too and while Reg is singing.... in walks Bet and Vicky back from their cruise. Bet demands to know what's going on, she can't believe her eyes and tells Rodney that he's only done this to prove to the brewery that he can run the pub better than she can, and bring in more money. He tells her he hasn't done it for the brewery and that they don't even know about it, he did it for her opinion and wants to know what she thinks about it. So, Bet takes the mike too and sings 'What do you want to make those eyes at me for', its a classic Coronation Street episode!!

Wow, what a week!

Well folks, Deidre is back! The reason is that Tracey is admitted to the same hospital that Martin works at, with a suspected drug overdose or a bad Ecstasy tablet instead her. Ken is at her bedside when she is in a coma and in walks Deidre. They both spend time together at Tracey's bedside although they don't know if she will pull through yet.

Rodney in the Rovers brings Bet a bunch of daffodils and wants to be friends with her, but Bet isn't so keen on this idea and when Rodney comes into the Rovers and tells her to buy a drink for herself on him, she simply puts the money into the tip glass for the staff.

Martin and Gail are having a strained time at the moment. Audrey persuades Martin to let her and Alf have the children while they work things out between themselves. Martin brings the children home to see Gail for Mothers Day (which was March 26th here in the UK) and Gail tells Martin that her children have always been enough for her, and she has never needed to look outside the family for any more love. Neither Gail or Martin want to move out of the house but they won't give in to each other.

Tricia and Shaun have both been doing a bit of harmless flirting with each other lately and when Racquel finds out, she tells Curly that Tricia is being unfaithful to him. Curly tells Tricia he doesn't want any more to do with her. This also comes about because Curly sees little Jamie and he tells Curly that his mother has other boyfriends as well as Curly (just pulling his leg I think but Curly believes him).

Steve MacDonald is still deep in debt with almost everyone.

Don confides in Josie about Denise, and tells her everything, all about the telephone calls, following her and harassing her etc. Josie doesn't know how to react to this.

Vicky has decided not to invest in the stables after all and tells Bet she wants to give some of it to charity, Bet obviously doesn't want her to do this so she asks Vicky to think seriously before doing anything. I just hope she doesn't end up giving any of it to Steve McDonald.

Denise and John go to a nightclub together and Ken babysits. This comes after the night that Denise was in the Rovers singing on the karaoke machine, and so Ken babysits twice in a row. He has a go at Denise about only being involved in the baby's life when it suits her. He is babysitting the night that he has to go to the hospital when he hears about Tracey and has to take the baby with him.

Ken asks Denise if he can stay with her at her flat while Deidre lives in his flat and Shamir is coming over to stay with Deidre too. Denise tells Ken no, she doesn't want him to stay there. They have a huge argument with Ken telling Denise that it's obvious she doesn't want him in her life, and that she doesn't want him around the baby either. He tells her that he is going to consult a solicitor regarding custody of Danny. Ken also finds out that Denise and John had been out together and of course this just upsets him even more. The solicitor tells Ken that although he has no automatic rights to the child as the birth father, if the case went to course, Denise could be made to give access to Danny to Ken but advises Ken to talk to Denise about it first before going to court.

Tracey Barlow comes out of her coma with Deidre at her bedside although she is still in hospital (being looked after by the nurse that had the affair with Martin). Deidre asks Tracey if it's the first time she has taken drugs or if its a regular thing, and Tracey tells her it's neither of those things, and that she doesn't intend to stop taking drugs when she gets out of the hospital even though it almost killed her. Bet finds out that Ken has no-where to stay while Deidre and Shamir live in his flat, and offers him a spare room at the Rovers which he accepts.

Now that Deidre is back, she asks Mike if he has made any progress with selling her house for her. He tells her he has put a tenant in the house, because he's having trouble selling it and she wants Mike to have it sold as soon as possible, she can't believe that there isn't even a For Sale sign in the house.

Martin tells Gail she is depressed and advises her to go to the doctor. She is incensed about this and tells Alma what Martin advised her to do, but Alma agrees that she should see the doctor, and he gives her anti-depressants.

Vicky is feeling jealous whenever she sees Steve McDonald and Fiona together, and finds out from Steve that he needs an investor for his t-shirt job for a nightclub, so she writes him a cheque for £2500 (oh no!) on the basis that she receives weekly updates of her investment and wants to know exactly what is going on in the business. Of course, he doesn't give her a receipt or even any kind of agreement for the money.

Rodney is still hanging around Bet in the Rovers and asks Racquel if there is anyone in Bet's life at present, Bet isn't too keen at all on Rodney and is doing her best to try to ignore him in the pub.

At Firmans Freezers, Reg and Curly meet with one of the American managers who have come to meet the staff before they decided whether to buy out the company. The American manager also wears a wig and is very sensitive about this subject, and Curly knows this but doesn't tell Reg, who goes in to his interview thinking that the American and he both have a special something in common and tries to play on this, it's quite funny. Reg on the other hand tells Curly not to wear his glasses for the interview as it makes him look less vulnerable but of course Curly can't see properly!

So, will Ken press for custody? I guess we'll have to wait until next week!

Tracey is now recovering in hospital but the nurse gives Ken and Deidre serious news, Tracey has kidney damage and will have to go on dialysis until such time that a kidney donor can be found for her. Ken and Deidre decide they will tell Tracey this news themselves rather than her hear it from a nurse in the hospital. When they do tell her, Tracey yells at them at first then starts crying, saying 'why me?, everyone does what I do, why me?'. Shamir is now in England with Deidre and they are staying at Ken's flat together, Shamir is doing his best to support Deidre but seems to be failing really, Deidre's only concern is Tracey although Shamir tells her that his uncle is waiting for their decision on buying a bar in Morrocco and can't hold out much longer for them to return there. Deidre decides that she will stay in England to be with Tracey for a while longer and that she is thinking of donating one of her own kidneys to Tracey.

Josie and Don get free tickets to see the Wizard of Oz at a local theatre and take Jack and Vera with them, against Jack's will, but when they all come back, Jack is singing songs from the show in the Rovers, and Josie gets to stay with Don overnight....

Fiona qualifies as a hairdresser from being a trainee and is now qualified to style hair in the salon. One of her first customers is Gail who she tries to please, but Gail doesn't seem too impressed with her haircut (which looks exactly the same as it did previously!).

Rodney is thinking about buying the Merc. from Mike (Mike knows it was stolen, and has the registration from an old Allegro). Rodney is very keen on the car and so he checks out the registration, finds out it has been stolen and tells Mike he is honour bound to inform his old friends at the police station!

Gail and Martin continue to have problems, Gail doesn't take the anti depressants after all and tries to pull herself out of her depression, they hardly speak to one another in the house and speak only to the children.

Alf is arranging a visit for a French Mayor who is coming over to Weatherfield in the next few episodes.

Mavis and Derek are now into gardening, and Derek has big plans for their garden now that he knows of a new garden centre nearby.

A 'For Sale' sign goes up at Deidre's old house but Tricia takes it down again, and tells Mike she is going to get advice about staying in the house as a sitting tenant.

Vicky asks Steve McDonald for input into his business as she is now an 'investor' but he tells her to keep away from the business before anyone finds out that she has lent him money, he threatens to tell Bet if she keeps pestering him.

Deidre visits the consultant at the hospital and tells him she wants to donate her kidney to Tracey. He tells her that just because she is Tracey's mother is no guarantee that the kidney will match, and even if it does, they would only consider using her as a donor if they can't find a suitable one which has been donated from other sources. There are risks to such an operation also, but Deidre can only think about helping Tracey. Shamir is trying his best to support and comfort Deidre but they seem to be pulling apart somehow. The hospital have told Deidre and Ken that Tracey will need as stable a home environment as possible when she is released from hospital and Deidre is now desperate to get Tricia out of her old house so she can move back in for a few months. Tricia however, seems set on staying.

The police have taken away Mike Baldwin's Mercedes, although he denied knowing that it was a stolen vehicle.

The French Mayor, M. Pico has arrived in Weatherfield. Alf had tried to find a suitable hotel for him to stay in, but in the end he is staying with Alf and Audrey. He brings with him a black pudding for Alf and a bottle of expensive perfume for Audrey who is overjoyed, and tells the French Mayor to "relax-ay voo" in their home!

Derek has installed a couple of ugly gnomes in their garden, because he told Mavis that the female gnome reminded him of her! Norris comes around to see them both and talks non stop about Angela, he brings Mavis a chocolate Easter Egg and says that he bought Angela one too but they mis-spelt her name on the egg to read 'Angel' which Norris thought was quite fitting.

Steve McDonald finishes the t-shirt job for Costello's nightclub and goes to make the delivery, Vicky insists on going along with him. When they arrive, the owner of the club is out of town and so they don't get paid cash on delivery, as agreed. Vicky is all for taking the goods out of the club until they get paid, but Steve agrees to leave them there and collect the cash later. That evening, Steve and Fiona go to the club and Vicky and Andy McDonald turn up later. The manager gives Steve a cheque to cover the cost of the t-shirts even though cash had been agreed upon originally. Andy tells Vicky that she is playing a dangerous game with Fiona and Steve as she seems set on splitting them up now she has a financial hold over Steve.

As it's been a long holiday weekend (Friday and Monday) here in the UK, John and Denise decide to go out for a day trip with the baby, in John's car. They spend a day in the country and then go back to Denise's flat for dinner and some wine. Denise tells John all about Ken and John can't understand what Denise's problem is with Ken, he thinks he is a good bloke. However, they start confiding in each other and then John leans over Denise and kisses her but she pushes him away, telling him that he has got the wrong idea. He tells Denise that she is always leading men on and should know better by now, and gets up and leaves, telling Denise not to expect to see him again, in any capacity.

I forgot to mention above that Shamir and Ken have a little run in over Deidre, with Ken telling Shamir in no uncertain terms that their daughter has to come first for Deidre.

Deidre is devastated when the consultant at the hospital tells her that she is unsuitable for a match to be made with her kidney to Tracey. Shamir tries to console her but Deidre is tearful most of the time, she starts thinking about Tracey's father Ray and wonders if he would be a suitable match for Tracey's kidney but she doesn't have a recent address for Ray. Emily has an old address for him but Deidre tells her it was over 10 years since he lived at that address and believes he lives in Holland these days. Emily asks if the British Embassy could trace Ray and Deidre tells her that the hospital is sorting it all out and are looking for him. I wonder if this will signal the return of Ray Langton?

Jack and Vera decide to take their grandson Tommy on holiday with them to a caravan site in North Wales that Jack was sent to in the war as an evacuee and they make all the plans to go in a couple of weeks time.

Steve McDonald pays the cheque into the bank from Costellos and of course it bounces with unsufficient funds in the account. He goes to the nightclub and meets the official receiver there who tells him that Costellos have gone out of business and they are unlikely to see any of their money ever. Steve realises he is now overdrawn at the bank and could be bankrupt himself, unless of course Vicky lends him some more money. Fiona finds out that Vicky has been lending Steve money and is very jealous that Steve is seeing Vicky again, although Steve tells Vicky he didn't have any choice but to take the money from Vicky. Fiona asks Steve to stay away from Vicky and he says he will but that evening he is in the Rovers with Vicky, Denise sees them both sitting with Steve's hand over Vickys and he is saying the line 'lets give it one more chance eh?' does he mean the business or the relationship?

Des celebrates his 30th (!) birthday in the Rovers, Phyllis is the only one to remember and buys him a card.

Ken goes to see Denise about access to Danny but she wants definite times and dates that Ken can have access to Danny while Ken wants to be more involved in Danny's life and to be a father to him. He tells Denise he is asking her one last time before he brings the law into the matter regarding access.

M. Pico, the French Mayor speaks French and Alf of course speaks English, and quite often the two of them have trouble understanding each other and making each other understood. M. Pico is most bemused that Alf has a 'mistress' in the Rovers as well as a wife, he believes Betty to be Alf's mistress and that Betty's 'hotpot' is something quite different from a beef stew!! He also misunderstands Racquel completely when she tells him she is a model... :-) although he does send an apology to Racquel after he leaves. As Alf and M. Pico go to an official function with Betty and Racquel as their escorts, Audrey feels a bit peeved at being left home alone and so arranges for Bryan (Alf's ex chauffer) to come to the Rovers and they drink together all night while Alf is away, although Alf comes back early and Bryan is still in the Rovers with Audrey!

Well folks, Denise has left!! Ken goes to see her again regarding access to Danny and hands her a letter outlining his 'demands' (as she requested from him). She takes the letter from Ken and then later Fiona sees Denise getting into a taxi with baby Danny. Fiona asks her where she is going but she doesn't say, she just says she wants to get away from everything and tells Fiona to look after the salon for her while she is away. When Ken finds out he tells Fiona he thinks it's a 'positive' thing for Denise to have done, although I'm not quite sure why he said this. Fiona calls John and he comes into the salon to help out for a few hours while he tries to contact other hairdressers to get some permanent help for Fiona.

Ken goes to see the consultant at the hospital about giving one of his kidneys to Tracey and the consultant tells him he can't give his kidney as he is not a suitable match for Tracey. Shamir is feeling a bit left out, feeling that Ken is only trying to help Tracey to get back into Deidre's good books and Shamir and Deidre argue over this. Then, Shamir announces that he is going to meet with the consultant to see if he is a suitable match for Tracey and *surprise* he is! (I don't think anyone saw that one coming 8-) ) Tracey has come out of hospital now and is living in Ken's flat with Deidre and Shamir although she is being quite unpleasant to Shamir. She doesn't know yet that he could be her donor.

Vera and Jack's grandson Tommy is staying with them now before they all go on holiday to Mould in North Wales this coming weekend. Vera decides to throw a little party for Tommy and invites Martin and Gail's children and Rosie Webster. Vera falls asleep and one of the children draws a moustache on her face! Des brings a little toy to Tommy and is overjoyed to see him again. Jack is at a loss as he has no one to look after his pigeons when he goes on holiday, so in the end agrees to little Jamie looking after them. Derek is not amused when he finds pigeon droppings on his new gnomes!

Now that Tracey is out of hospital she is living in Ken's flat with Deidre and Shamir and space is a little tight, so Deidre arranges for both her and Shamir to move out of the flat and live with Liz and Jim McDonald in Andy's bedroom (who moves in with Des). Shamir is feeling very jealous of Deidre's feelings towards Ken, especially when Deidre kisses Ken in front of Shamir. When they move into the McDonald's house they argue and Deidre slaps Shamir across the face, although they patch things up later. Deidre wants to tell Tracey that Shamir is prepared to donate his kidney to her (more tests pending) but Shamir doesn't want Tracey to know yet. Tracey continues to be as awful as ever, especially to Shamir.

Martin passes his exams and is now a qualified nurse. Maud Grimes buys him a present. He is so pleased that he has passed and relieved at the exams being over so he books a family holiday in a caravan park. Gail doesn't want to go at first but is persuaded and they set off. They awake on their first morning in the caravan to hear Jack and Vera Duckworth shouting at each other. It turns out that the Duckworth's have gone to the same caravan park as the Platt's and are in the caravan next door to them. Gail and Martin are trying to get back on normal terms with each other. Vera takes the Platt children out for an afternoon and play hide and seek, with Jack doing the hiding. Of course, he runs straight to the local pub and can't find his own caravan when he comes back much later that evening.

Don and Josie were planning a quiet holiday weekend (it's been a holiday here on May 8th to celebrate 50th anniversary of VE day) but their plans are dashed when Nicky decides to stay with Don rather than go to the caravan with his family. Josie asks Don if they could go away on holiday later in the year together.

One of Derek's gnomes has gone missing from his garden and there is still no sign of Denise (not that these are connected in any way... !) Fiona brings in one of her friends to the salon to help out, she is a real flirt and chats up Des Barnes in the Rovers. Des takes out little Tommy to the park and another chap there asks Des if Tommy is his only child, and a rather wistful look comes over Des' face.

Things are still tense between Steve/Vicky/Fiona. Vicky has invested more money into Steve's business on condition that she has total financial control, she also brings him to book over quality control too. Vicky is doing her utmost to get back into Steve's life much to Fiona's annoyance.

On the night of the VE Day celebrations, two old soldiers drink in the Rovers, just as they had done 50 years earlier on the night that the war ended. One of them, Billy Williams remembers Betty from 1945, they celebrated the end of the war together. Billy and Betty become friends again and he takes her to a tea dance one afternoon and confesses that he thought about her often over the years and that he wrote to her often too. Betty tells him that she wrote to him but neither of them received each others letters because of the war, and Billy tells Betty that in one of his letters he had asked her to marry him!

Derek and Mavis receive a postcard from a topless beach in Eastbourne, which has been signed by the missing gnome. Mavis suspects that Des Barnes has stolen the gnome and that he intends to make a fool of her and Derek.

Samir confides in Jim McDonald that he is scared about donating his kidney to Tracey. Jim tells him that it has to be his own decision. Tracey is feeling very sorry for herself and argues with Ken who tells her not to be so selfish. She goes to borrow some money from Deidre so she can have a drink in the Rovers with her friend and Samir expresses concern that she shouldn't be drinking so she argues with Samir and then Deidre and walks out shouting at them both.

Denise rings Fiona in the salon and gives her the telephone number and address of her sister's house where she is staying. Fiona tells Ken she knows where Denise is, Deidre advises Ken to get in touch with Denise regarding Danny or it could look like Ken isn't concerned about the baby.

Mike Baldwin gives Trisha 2 months notice to leave the house and of course she is most upset about this and complains to Racquel and Betty in the Rovers, who have little sympathy for her.

Gail and Martin's relationship is getting back to normal now after they enjoyed themselves on their caravan holiday. Nicky has a girlfriend now... he takes her to Don's house when they should both be at school and they are just getting to grips with each other on the sofa when Josie walks in on them. Don says he won't tell Gail and Martin about it as long as it doesn't happen again.

Alf and Betty are getting ready to hang up the Mayoral chain as their year of command ends this week.

Well, she's back!! Ken calls to see Denise at her sisters house and she invites him in for a coffee but doesn't offer any information as to when she might come back to the street, or even if she ever will. Then, last night Denise came back into the Street (without Danny) and after briefly calling into the salon to see Fiona, she headed straight to see Ken. Denise told Ken she'd been doing some thinking while she was at her sisters and she realised she had been wrong all this time. She wants to try again with Ken, to start the relationship over again and to bring Danny up in as normal a family environment as possible. In fact, she almost pleaded with Ken. Ken told Denise he'd had time to think too, and as much as he would love to be involved in baby Danny's life, he could not commit himself to Denise at this stage, only to have her change her mind about the relationship when it suited her. They argue and shout at each other and in the end Ken asks Denise to leave his flat.

Samir has further tests at the hospital to see if he is definitely suitable to donate a kidney to Tracy, and the tests come back positive. Deidre tells Samir that if he doesn't want to have the operation, then he doesn't have to, but Samir has made up his mind, and they tell Tracy. Samir, Tracy and Deidre go to the hospital together for pre- operation counselling and the doctor asks to see Samir and Tracy together only. They end up confessing to the doctor that they are both scared about the operation, and Samir even gets Tracy to smile! Deidre is pleased that Samir and Tracy are now on speaking terms with each other, and the operation is set for Friday 2nd June.

A bouquet of flowers arrive at the Rovers for Betty. Racquel jokes to Betty that they are from her new friend Billy Williams but they turn out to be from Alf, as a thank you for being his mayoress this past year.

Steve McDonald receives an order from an Irish company in Dublin. Vicky checks out the company before they do business with them and it turns out that it is a legitimate business. Fiona wants to fly to Dublin with Steve when he goes to get the order, but Vicky buys two plane tickets for herself and Steve only.

Alma and Audrey have a day trip out together to Southport where they go shopping. They pop into a pub for a drink with all of their shopping bags when two men come and sit at their table as there are no free seats left in the pub. One of them comments on Audrey's collection of shopping bags, and she tells him it's because she is a fashion buyer for a large store, and tells them that Alma is a catering consultant. They really wind the 2 blokes up and when they leave, one of them gives Alma his business card as he would like her catering expertise for one of his businesses. They both just treat the outing as a big joke but when they get back to the street, Audrey rings the number on this business card and pretends to be Alma. The chap then rings the cafe later asking for Alma and with Audrey encouraging Alma, she arranges to meet the chap on Friday for a business meeting.

At the Rovers, Tricia asks Bet for her wages and Bet gives her less money than she usually does. She tells Tricia it's because she's only paying her for the work that she has carried out, and reprimands her for being late and sloppy in her work. Tricia doesn't take the criticism lightly and both she and Bet end up arguing in the bar in front of everyone. Bet gives Tricia the sack, tells her to leave and not to come back.

Maureen and Maud are both laid in bed ill with gastro- enteritis and so Reg has to find someone to work in the corner shop and Deidre steps in to help for a while. Then, when Tricia finds out that Reg needs help in the shop, she offers to work there and Reg takes her on. She has only been there a couple of days when she brings Jamie in to help her and he's already started eating the stock!

Vicky tells Bet that she is in business with Steve McDonald. Bet isn't too keen on this idea as she thinks Steve is just using Vicky to get at her money. A thug called Denny comes around to Steve McDonald's flat when he is out, Fiona lets him in and the thug starts smashing chairs and ornaments because Steve owes his boss some money. Fiona is shaken by this but Steve gives her no sympathy at all, in fact he walks out on her and over to the Rovers where he is as nice as can be to Vicky, and holds Vicky's hand across the bar.

Deidre and Ken have a chat about Denise and Deidre advises Ken to perhaps allow Denise a second chance, which he now seems to be doing. Denise confides in Bet at the Rovers about her relationship with Ken, but doesn't get much sympathy from Bet. Ken and Denise go out together on the Bank Holiday Monday with baby Danny and Denise is being very nice to Ken, although they are taking things one step at a time.

Samir prepares Lancashire hotpot for Deidre, Jim and Liz in the McDonald household. However, Jim and Liz are now starting to feel the strain of sharing their house with Samir and Deidre and want more privacy. Tracy tells Samir that he doesn't have to go through the operation if he really doesn't want to, and that she is prepared to have dialysis for as long as it takes for another kidney to turn up from a donor. Samir tells her that he is ready for the operation, no matter what.

Mavis and Derek's gnome turns up on his doorstep after a knock on their front door, we still don't know(m) who took it.

Samir and Tracey are ready for their operation. Ken is ready to take them both to hospital along with Deidre when Samir tells Deidre that he must have time to prepare for the operation, and that he wishes to walk to the hospital rather than have a lift from Ken, in order to clear his head and prepare himself. Deidre, Ken and Tracey set off for the hospital and Tracey walks into the hospital on her own, she doesn't want Ken and Deidre to go in with her. Meanwhile, Samir is walking along the canal when a group of youths try to push past him, one of them making a racist remark to him. Later that evening, Deidre is sitting by the phone in the McDonald's house, waiting for a phone call from Samir at the hospital, when 2 police officers arrive at the door looking for Mrs. Rashid. It appears that Samir is in hospital but he has tremendous head injuries consistent with those he could have suffered from a fall or an attack. The police have no evidence that he was attacked so we still don't know if it was an accident or not. Samir dies in hospital and Deidre agrees to donate his kidney to Tracey and agrees to donate some of his other vital organs to other patients. Tracey's kidney transplant operation goes well, however Deidre refuses to see Tracey in hospital, blaming Tracey for Samir's death. When Deidre does eventually go into hospital to see Tracey to tell her that Samir is dead, Tracey is asleep in her hospital bed and Deidre angrily throws a bunch of flowers onto Tracey's bed and walks out. It is left to Ken to tell Tracey that Samir is dead, and Deidre flies back to Morocco with Samir's body. When Tracey finds out about Samir, Ken tells her she mustn't blame herself for what has happend. Tracey tells him she doesn't blame herself, she blames Ken.

Denise stays overnight at Ken's flat with baby Danny, and Denise makes Fiona the new Manager of the hair salon. Fiona is overjoyed about this but when she tells Steve about her good news, he just isn't interested.

Denny the thug visits Steve McDonald in the print shop and tells him he is looking for some money from him for his boss, Frank Mottram. Steve asks Vicky to lend him £5,000 and Vicky says if it was for business then she would agree, but she has to say no if it is for his personal life. Steve then disappears, neither Vicky nor Fiona knows where he has gone although he keeps in contact with Fiona by telephone. Fiona moves Maxine into the flat while Steve is away. When Steve does come back, it appears he has been in London trying to raise some money to pay Frank Mottram. Unfortunately, he is visited in the print shop by another thug, this time armed with a baseball bat and he beats Steve up.

Alf receives a letter notifying him that he is to be awarded the OBE (Order of the British Empire). Audrey is more overjoyed to be the wife of an OBE than she is that Alf has actually been awarded the OBE. Celebrations are in order at the Rovers.

Trisha is sacked from the corner shop as Maureen is now back at work. Trisha overhears that the flat above the shop is empty and she is now working on Maureen and Reg to rent the flat to her and Jamie.

Betty goes to a tea dance with Billy Williams who asks Betty to go away on holiday with him. When Betty says she is unsure about this, Billy asks her if it would make any difference if they were married. Betty doesn't know if this is a true proposal of marriage or if it is just for convenience sake so they can go on holiday together.

Alma is putting together a business proposal for the chap she and Audrey met on their day out shopping. The chap wants a catering consultant for his pub and Alma is taking the work seriously, and enlists the help of Vicky who prepares a business plan for Alma. Mike isn't taking this too seriously at all.

Vera has been sacked from Bettabuys. When she tells Jack, he is ready to fight for Vera's rights at an appeal until Vera admits she has been caught damaging cans of food so she can buy them cheap!

Steve McDonald is terribly battered and bruised after his beating by one of Frank Mottram's thugs. He tells both Fiona and Vicky about his debts, it appears he owes about £6,000 to casino owners and betting shops. Fiona is worried about Steve and wonders if he can ever pull himself out of debt. Steve goes to Vicky and asks her if he can borrow some money from her to pay off his debts but she says 'no' once again. Then, she finally agrees to lend him some money as long as he shows that he is working to clear his debts too and suggests that he starts by selling his car, so he puts his car up for sale and then Vicky gives him a wad of cash.

Alma gets a cheque for £500 for the catering consultancy job and she gives Audrey a gift token for her help in this just as Audrey is moaning to Alf that Alma owes her something! It's Mike and Alma's wedding anniversary and Mike brings a bouquet of flowers into the cafe for Alma. However, Alma has forgotten about the anniversary completely! so she has to pretend that she has a special surprise for Mike that evening, and she books up in a fancy restaurant for dinner for them both. When they are in the restaurant, Steve McDonald and Fiona come in.

Fiona is amazed at Steve, the fact that he is completely broke but is prepared to splash out on an expensive meal. When she finds that he intends to pay with Vicky's money, she tells Steve exactly what she thinks of him and walks out of the restaurant, goes back to the flat and throws Steve's clothes out of the window onto the pavement, and tells him to go to Vicky.

A local newspaper want a picture and story on Alf now that he is to awarded the OBE. Audrey buys an expensive decanter to use in the photograph, she has an idea that the photograph will be taken with the Mayor and his wife at home, but it ends up being taken in the Rovers. The newspaper eventually uses a photo of Alf and Betty, much to Audrey's annoyance.

Alf is called in to see the Chief Executive of the Council and he assumes that he has been called in so that he can be granted the freedom of the borough after being Mayor for 2 years. However, when he arrives at the Council he is accused of stealing over £7,000 from the Mayor's charity fund, which Alf was responsible for during his year of command. The money has gone missing, apparantly cheques have been written to companies and organisations which do not actually exist. Alf tells the Chief Executive that he only signed the cheques, they were all written out before he signed them, and he never checked where the money was going. It appears that someone has taken advantage of Alf but the council chambers are full of rumours now that Alf has stolen the money from the fund. Alf is worried in case he loses his OBE because of this.

Determined not to lose his garden gnomes again, Derek uses cement to keep his 2 gnomes in his garden. As he is doing this, Gail, Martin and the kids are playing in their garden, so they see him do it. Derek goes away and when he returns, gnome foot prints are everywhere in the wet cement and Arthur has disappeared again. At first Derek blames Gail and Martin, saying the footprints could have been caused by doll's shoes, but then Derek blames Des again in Rovers.

Mike Baldwin goes to see Trisha to tell her to tidy up the house as he has prospective buyers coming to view the property. When he arrives at the house, Trisha is still in her nightie and starts chatting up Mike, he doesn't know quite how to take it. Jim McDonald watches Mike go into Trisha's house and sees that Trisha isn't dressed and assumes that Mike fancies Trisha.

After passing his exams, Martin now has a temporary job at Weatherfield General, on a 6 month contract in the casualty department.

Well, the Fiona/Vicky/Steve McDonald storyline is certainly hotting things up in the Street. As Fiona has now kicked Steve out of the flat they shared above Jim's Cafe, Steve has been sleeping in the print shop. When Vicky finds out that Steve is now a free agent, she goes to see Steve late at night in the print shop when he is just about to sleep, walks in and unbuttons her top while he is lying in his sleeping bag - saying "Stop me if this isn't what you want!" Well, it obviously is what he wants as she's still there at 3.30am the next morning and sneaks back to the Rovers as quietly as she can only to be met by a stony faced Bet who had waited up for her. Vicky lies like mad and pretends she was out with a friend, but Bet is guessing what is really going on. Vicky goes back to the print shop the next night after taking a taxi from the Rovers and makes the taxi driver go around the block to make it seem to Bet like she is really going out. When Vicky and Steve are tucked up in his sleeping bag again, Steve asks Vicky to marry him!!

It's the McDonald twins 21st birthday and they both receive a cheque for £500 each from Liz and Jim. Steve needs to get his hands on the cash immediately so he asks Rita if she can give him some cash against the cheque. Rita agrees to give him a small advance of £50 after she mistakenly believes he wants the money to take Fiona out for a meal as an apology to her. Steve asks Fiona to the Rovers for a drink and Fiona is under the impression that he is going to apologise to her and that they will get back together again. However, all that Steve wanted to tell her was that although she can keep the stereo, it is worth £200, and if Fiona gives him £50 for it, she can keep it!

Des takes Andy out for a drunken night for his birthday and Andy sleeps on the sofa in Des' house only to be waken when Phyllis' vacuum cleaner keeps bumping into the sofa the next morning. Des also buys a bottle of champagne in the Rovers to celebrate Andy's birthday with Jim and Liz.

Raquel tells Betty that she has seen Billy Williams walking in the street and that he looks very poorly as he's walking with a limp. Both Bet and Racquel end up making Betty feel so guilty that she hasn't seen Billy for some time, that Betty goes to see Billy and it turns out that the reason he was limping is that he has had trouble with his bunion and had been to see the chiropodist!

Alf confides in Ken about the missing money, Ken assures Alf that the money will turn up in due course. Ken remembers that when he ran the Recorder newspaper, council money was often going astray due to wrongful allocation of funds, and that he often reported this in the Recorder only to have his story proved wrong when the money later turned up. Audrey's plans for a new conservatory are out of the question now as Alf doesn't want her to spend any more money on the house as he's so worried about what people will think of him. A journalist has also been sniffing around Alf and Audrey's house on the scent of the missing money. Even people in the Rovers, people who know Alf are starting to wonder if her really did steal the money.

Jack and Vera are broke. Vera owns up to not paying any bills for a couple of months, and admits to Jack that the mortgage is in serious arrears. Vera receives a card from Ivy in the retreat and this gives her the idea of going to church to ask God to send them some money! (This really is a very funny scene). Later that week, Jack reads in a newspaper that his brother Cliff and his wife have been killed while on holiday in Spain and now Vera is blaming herself for Cliff's death as it happened on the same day that she went to church to pray. Jack fishes out Cliff's last will and testament that Cliff signed when he lived with Jack and Vera over Christmas and wonders how much money Cliff has left them both. Jack calls in an insurance consultant for an informal chat but when Jack starts asking specific questions such as "how much would a person get if a married couple died?" then the rather young and inexperienced insurance salesman gets up and leaves, feeling very worried about the questions Jack is asking.

Tracey has visitors in the hospital - Percy Sugden and Emily. And Percy even makes Tracey laugh! Tracey leaves the hospital despite Ken's wishes, and she goes to live with a brother of one of her friends even though Ken wants her to live with him. Deidre is due back in England next week too.

Sally is now back in the street (after taking time off to have a baby in real life). She asks Rita to babysit but Vera Duckworth jumps in with both feet and offers to babysit instead, saying she could do with the money. Sally and Kevin weren't intending to pay and feel like Vera has railroaded them.

The gnome is still missing.
